Flip Ultra

Flip Ultra

My girlfriend bought me a flip ultra for my birthday.  Right out of the box you are ready to start recording videos.  It is very easy to use.  Just turn it on press the record button and life is good. lol.

The design sleek, although it is a bit bulky then compared to the Flip Mino HD.   Its outer shell has a little bit of a rubber grip which feels comfortable in your hand and feels very sturdy, not flimsy.  The is a 2″ LCD screen on the back of the Ultra for crisp clear play back of your videos.  There is a TV out on the bottom for hooking up to your TV. also another great feature of the Flip brand cameras is the built in usb connection.  Easily access able with the touch of the button it flips out hence the name Flip.

With 4 gb of memory you can record up to 2 hours of video. Which I think is great for a pocket size camera. It records at a resolution of 640×480. The video quality is great for such a small device. The flip seems to perform well in low lite areas.  The flip also come with its own software for organizing and editing your videos.  Just connect to your computer and the software is installed.

With it’s sleek look and comfortable design, the flip Ultra is a great buy for anyone who likes to film video on the go. Check out my video from youtube below the video quality is a bit low but hat is from youtube.

I can across a video on the internet and I felt I had to write about it on my blog. This video was about 10 things not to do while driving. The video quality was very well done, even on youtube it didn’t suffer from there compression. The audio soundtrack was uplifting and flowed with the project. The video delivered a on all aspects, who, what, where, when, why and how. The fact that the message was so cleverly presented in segments outlining each of the 10 things not to do while driving. All together it was very well laid out and planned.

Facebook or Creepbook?

In today’s society there are many ways to stay in touch with friends and family.  With MSN, MySpace, and the so-called revolution of social networking, Facebook.  Many of us have Facebook accounts. Some of us know how to monitor the information that we allow people on our friends list to view.  Sometimes its not even people on our friends list that can view our information.  This information can range from;

  • your date of birth
  • relationship status and who you are dating
  • email address
  • listing of all the personal groups within Facebook you are a member of

All this information is provided on your main page. If you haven’t changed your privacy settings anyone can view this information.  Also, on top of all of this people can view your photos and any posts or comments you or your friends make on pictures or even if you are tagged in a picture everyone on your friends list will see this picture.

Now we all know there are good people in the world and a lot of not so good people in the world.  My girlfriend actually showed me a story in Cosmopolitan Magazine (July Issue page 128). This story was about someone who stole another woman’s Facebook picture and a body shot and opened a Facebook page with her name. Pretty soon she was interacting with the victims friends online and causing many problems.  This poor woman also was unable to contact Facebook to report the abuse.  Also in my research, I was unable to find an easy-to-find link to contact Facebook about abuse like this.

On top of this a friend of mine had met a guy at a bar and added him to her Facebook. He then sent her emails on Facebook to persuade her to have sexual intercourse with her. Which were followed by many other lude comments on her wall (which is public area on one’s profile to post comments that are viewable to any who can view your profile). I remember talking to her when she was in tears and terrified that someone like that was on her Facebook, looking at her pictures doing God knows what.

With all this being said, Facebook is a good way to keep in touch with the people you know. But when it comes to people you don’t know, that’s when the privacy wall should come up. It is also a bad to inform the wrong person that you are going to be on holidays for the next few weeks.  In an article posted on www.reuters.com (see link at end of post), burglars are using Facebook to check people status’s to see if they are going on vacation and for how long.  The burglars then go and have a field day looting the unfortunate victims house.

So in order to keep yourself, friends, and family safe on Facebook I urge you to read this article. It touches on keeping you safe and also how not to spam your friends list with constant status updates.

10 Privacy settings every Facebook user should know

As with all great tools, you have to know how to use them properly.  There are many people using the Internet not know what information they are sending out.  I’m not against Facebook, if anything I’m all for it just use it wisely and properly.

EA Sports NHL 2010

EA Sports NHL 2010 game cover
So we all know that I love sports, so it is fitting that I do a review on the new game from Ea Sports called NHL 2010 on Playstation 3.  Wow what a game the amount of detail they put into this game is amazing. From the look of the ice to the dynamic sound of the crowd.  When I say dynamic I mean if your the home team they will start cheering for your goalie is he is making amazing saves.  Or the ooooo’s and ahhhhh’s from the crowd when you just miss the net or hit the post.

I found the controls of the game a little hard to master but after playing for a couple weeks im doing pretty good. You use the right analog stick to control the stick handling when you have the puck and left analog stick to control the movement of the player.  If you want to take a slap shot you pull all the way back on the right analog stick to wind up for the shot, then push the right analog stick all the way forward to take the shot. To deke a player or goalie move the right analog stick left or right depending on the direction of the deke.

The graphics are amazing the models of each player with a realistic face look amazing.  It adds a very realistic look to the game. The graphics have been improved slightly from last years game.

The online play is fantastic you can take part in ranked or un-ranked games.  You can enjoy the game with freinds over the internet while heckling each other over headsets.  If you play ranked games you can see your overall stats on the leader boards.

Also included with the game is GM mode where you take total control of a NHL team of your choice and deal players and trade them. Also a neat feature for this mode was to be able to go through and try and pick players in the draft which was pretty cool.

The selection of teams to choose from is enormous. You can choose teams in the NHL or in the AHL as well as teams from the European teams.  On top of this you can choose the Olympic teams.

All in all this game is a must buy if you are a hockey fan. The realism and fantastic fun from playing your friends or random people online is great.  I recommends this game for all hockey fans and give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Here is a video that I saved of me playing. Enjoy….

My different personalities

In the woods firing shotgun

Two weekends ago a friend of mine went up to his grand fathers property of land by Lanark county. He has 285 achres which is prime for hunting.  This picture shows me totally engaged in try to make my shot.  This depicts the hunter in me.

Playing rugby. Going in for the try.

Back in my glory days in highschool i played rugby. This picture is from when I played for Eastern Ontario Rugby team in the Ontario summer games. We won the gold that year. I love sports, it’s alwasy been a part of me whether it is hockey rugby football or mix martial arts, im always reading up on whats happening the sports world.

Cozy on the couch

Every now and then I like to plant myself on the couch for a whole day just relaxing watching sports or movies.

Annoyed

Everyone gets annoyed when waiting in lines. these two kids infront of me were really getting to me. They were arguing for 45 minutes while we waited in line for a ride at Canada’s wonderland. Any longer and I would have lost it lol no probably not… who wants to yell at a kid any way.

MMMMMMmmmmmmmmm. Funnel cake.

When i get hungry I am a force to be reckoned with, especially when it comes to funnel cakes. Anyone who knows me knows that when I am eating don’t steal food or bother me lol.. not its not that bad but I love my food

There is technology in all of us. Growing up I always found myself drawn to the computer. I would spend countless hours surfing the Internet.  I started off looking at information on video games and then I discovered that I could pretty much receive information about anything.  I remember being younger and having to do a project on submarines. I must have been in grade 7 or 8. I typed submarine in the webcrawler search box.  Yes, that’s right, www.webcrawler.com. Don’t spell it wrong. I’ve done that before and let’s just say it’s not a website you want to come up when your on the school computer.

When I clicked search, up came some results. Wow, so many results.  Was this possible? All these results on a certain search. I remember having to go to the library and search the catalogs for books and then go find them in the aisles.  This was so much faster.

I always loved the Internet and as I grew up, I knew I wanted to do something with it. I wanted to make something with it, I wanted to… make websites.  As I graduated from high school, I took some time off to work and save up money for school.  Finally, I attended Algonquin College for Interactive Multimedia.  I enjoyed the first semester. Creating things in Photoshop, recording and editing video, creating and editing sound, also learning html.  It was a great first semester.

School is always on my mind. This semester I have a 3d class and am really enjoying that as well.  Hopefully as I finish the years off I will come out of this program and into a career right away.  I enjoy everything that this program has.  I already have a few offers for little jobs here and there to do their website.

At this point, I am currently hoping to create my own website showing off my work and releasing a very short 3d animated episode each month. Right now, I am swamped with school work and have not had any time to work on this little project of mine.

Another reason why I enjoy the multimedia field is that the technology and industry is always changing. With programs and tools changing and being updated every day, this industry will never be the same as yesterday, and tomorrow will always be different from today. It is a constant research project.
